A Unique Vessel

Eve of St Mawes is a unique new wooden vessel, built to a classic design based on a Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter. The robust working boat style of the 1890s produces a very seaworthy thoroughbred with classically beautiful lines, but the entire wooden hull, decking and traditional interior are all new, solidly and skilfully crafted by boat designer and builder Lucan Powell.

The on-board accomodation includes two double berths (coloured blue in plan), three single saloon berths (coloured pink and blue in plan, the two pink berths are convertible to seating for day-time use) and two single berths in the forward cabin (coloured blue); a fully equipped galley, toilet, hot water shower, a table to seat everyone and a library with a strangely nautical flavour.

Eve is 38 feet long on deck, 51 feet overall including the impressive bowsprit. She is gaff rigged, providing 900 square feet of interesting sails to set and trim, and a traditional way of tacking and wearing ship. Her long keel and 14 ton displacement provide a stable but powerful platform, and make her a safe craft for all abilities. Designed to sail in all conditions, Eve is equally at home providing gentle sailing or thrilling racing.

She is also equipped with a powerful diesel engine, and a dinghy with outboard motor in which to explore and go ashore.

Safety

Eve of St Mawes is new, and has been built to conform with the Department of Transport's Code of Practice (1993) for The Safety of Small Commercial Sailing Vessels. She is fully equipped with navigation and safety equipment, and all our staff are qualified to Code of Practice standards. Classic Sailing has a well thought out and practical safety policy to ensure that we operate to a high standard of safety in all ways.
